Monster Project Part 2 : Talismans - 2010

The Talisman series emerged during my work on the Monster Project at a kindergarten in Finland. A child’s drawing and his words gently revealed the possibility that he was suffering at the hands of his father. In that moment, I understood that my work, no matter how imaginative, had no meaning to him.

Determined to bridge this gap, I delved into the concept of a talisman. Through this exploration, I realized that a talisman is not just a superstition, but a source of protection and quiet strength—much like the old watch my grandfather had left me. A year later, I returned to give him the talisman, explaining that it was a reminder that the monster lab was always watching over him. I hoped it would offer him comfort and a sense of being seen.
